#HealthcareProviders
/Finding a good PCP(primary care physician) is probably one of the most important decisions you have to make in your adult life. Fluffy or not, everyone needs a doctor and I say the better your relationship with them, the better your attitude towards health. Now from the fluffy perspective, finding a good doctor didn’t seem prevalent until I got older.
I’ve had my share of great doctors and not so great doctors. One doctor I had when I was younger would just say lose weight and that’s it. No referrals, resources or tips for my parents and I. This left it in our hands and honestly lead to a lot of fad dieting(remember Atkins?!?). It wasn’t until my early 20s upon referral from my aunt(who is a gastroenterologist) in GA, when I got my first GREAT doctor. After conversations and detailed testing, I was told food was not my main issue when it came to weight, it was more so my hormonal levels, etc. Unfortunately, due to insurance reasons I couldn’t stay with that particular medical group(we’ll talk about health insurance another time— heh Obamacare) and I went on a hunt for someone as thorough as the doctor I had in Miami. Finally, I found a great one end of last year that was close to home, HIGHLY recommended and his reviews were genuine. When I visited, he saw past the physical and paid attention to everything. He was detailed and very easy to talk to. It’s important to read up on those reviews because at first I was seeking a female doctor in his office, despite some of her low reviews. Let me tell you how I dodged a bullet there cause funny enough I received a letter 3 weeks ago explaining she is no longer with that medical group and I’ll leave you with that.
Do your research loves.

#MentalDay
/
Ever had one of those weeks where stuff didn’t go as planned? Not like one eff up and you manage to bounce back. I’m talking world came crashing down type week. One to the point where you say “I NEED to get away” or yearn to just do some shit you ain’t never done before. Do you realize that until something out of the ordinary happens, THAT’S when you want to get away? It shouldn’t have to be like that. Life shouldn’t SCARE you into time with yourself. Mental days. I believe you should make mental days apart of your routine. A specific day where you purposely remove yourself from the world to just think, relax and focus on mental clarity(I call it a energy tune up).
I did some reading on #mentaldays ( click here and here) and most articles suggested that you take it when you feel overwhelmed; I say you plan it. Why? It gives you something to look forward to. What’s the sense of bottling up all those emotions and mind cluttering UNTIL you’re close to the edge - - then you take a break. How effective can that really be? #mythoughts.
Do you take #mentaldays ? How do you spend it ?
Spread the word this week about the importance of taking a mental day, someone may need to hear it.
